Geography and Nature

The village of Dzebniaurebi is located in eastern Georgia, within the Tianeti Municipality, at an elevation of 1100 meters above sea level. It is built on the left bank of the Iori River, just one kilometer from the town of Tianeti. The geographical location defines its unique climate — summers here are pleasantly cool, while winters are snowy and harsh, typical of the Erzo-Tianeti region.

The nature here is untouched and diverse. The Iori Valley, which borders the village, is rich in floodplain forests and alpine meadows. The surroundings of the village are ideal for hikers and nature lovers, offering beautiful views of the Caucasus foothills.

Historical Past

The history of Dzebniaurebi is closely linked to the Jebota community and the Tianeti region as a whole. The name of the village likely originates from the surname 'Dzebniauri'. Historical sources from the first quarter of the 18th century mention a 'Dzebniauri monk', indicating the early settlement of this family in the area. For centuries, the village played a significant role in the defensive and economic life of the region as one of the connecting points between Kakheti and the highlands.

Architecture and Cultural Heritage

Dzebniaurebi and its surroundings are rich in medieval architectural monuments. Of particular note is the St. Mary's Church complex in Jebota, located near the village. This is a two-story structure from the developed Middle Ages, built with rubble stone, and represents an important example of the region's Christian culture.

In addition, ruins of old settlements and churches can be found within and near the village, testifying to the dense population of this area in the past. Traditional residential houses here are often built with local stone, blending organically into the mountain landscape.

Today, about 140 people live in Dzebniaurebi. The local population is mainly involved in cattle breeding and agriculture. The fertile soil characteristic of Tianeti allows for the cultivation of potatoes, corn, and various vegetable crops.
