Duisi serves as the primary administrative and cultural center of the Pankisi Gorge, situated in the Akhmeta Municipality at an elevation of 640 meters. The village stretches along the right bank of the Alazani River, positioned where the valley begins to widen, framed by the slopes of the Greater Caucasus. Its landscape is defined by the river corridor and the surrounding mountain forests, which provide direct access for hiking and exploration of the gorge.

Historical Context

The settlement is historically linked to the migration of the Kists, a Northeast Caucasian ethnic group with Chechen and Ingush origins, who established a permanent presence in the valley during the 19th century. Local records suggest that the village name derives from the name of one of the early settlers.
