Village
Dano
Dano is one of the highest and most mystical villages of Tusheti, located on the slopes of the Pirikiti Range, beyond the clouds.
Dano — Highland Mystique of Tusheti
Dano is one of the highest and most impressive villages in historical Tusheti, Akhmeta municipality. It is located at an elevation of 2040 meters above sea level, on the southern slope of the Pirikiti Range. The village belongs to the Samtsikhe community of Tusheti and is distinguished by its harsh but majestic alpine nature.
History and Cultural Heritage
The history of Dano spans centuries. At the end of the 19th century, about 40 households lived here, but over time the population moved to the lowlands, to the plains of Kakheti. Today, the village is deserted of permanent population, but it retains the authentic architecture characteristic of Tusheti — houses and towers built of slate, which harmoniously blend with the harsh mountain relief. Dano is among those Tushetian villages where the breath of the past is felt at every step.
Geography and Nature
The village is built on the left side of the Pirikiti Alazani River, from where beautiful panoramas of Tusheti unfold. The climate here is typical highland — with cool summers and harsh winters. Dano is a popular place for hikers seeking the untouched nature and tranquility of Tusheti. Near the village is Mount Dano, one of the important peaks of the region.
