Damala is one of the distinguished villages in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region, Aspindza municipality. It is located at an elevation of 1380 meters above sea level, on the Javakheti plateau. Damala was founded in 1829 by Armenians who migrated from the Erzurum province, bringing their traditions and way of life with them. In the center of the village stands the 19th-century Surb Khach (Holy Cross) Armenian church, an important example of local architecture. In the vicinity of the village lies the medieval Kokhta fortress, which was part of the region's defense system and still attracts great interest from travelers today.

The village is built on mountainous terrain, where the harsh but majestic nature characteristic of Javakheti unfolds. The climate here is healthy — with cool summers and snowy winters. Approximately 1230 people live in the village, mainly engaged in livestock farming and agriculture.
