Chesho — The Majesty of Tusheti in the Pirikiti Valley

Chesho is one of the most impressive and authentic villages in historical Tusheti, located in the Akhmeta Municipality, on the left bank of the Pirikiti Alazani River, at an altitude of 1980 meters above sea level. This is a place where time seems to have stood still and where every stone carries the spirit of the highlanders.

Geography and Location

The village is spread in the heart of the Pirikiti Valley, offering breathtaking views of alpine meadows and Caucasus peaks. Chesho is located on the road connecting the Pirikiti and Gometsari valleys, which made it a historically strategic point. The climate here is harsh, but in summer, nature unfolds in all its glory.

Architectural Heritage: Chesho Towers

The main pride of the village is its medieval architecture. Late medieval towers and fortress-houses built with Tushetian dry masonry are preserved in Chesho. These structures were not only a means of defense but also a symbol of the steadfastness and craftsmanship of the highlanders.

Although the village is almost empty of permanent residents, Chesho comes alive in the summer. Local families return to their roots every year.
