Akhaldaba — A Historical Resort in the Borjomi Gorge
In the Samtskhe-Javakheti region, within the Borjomi Municipality, lies the townlet (daba) of Akhaldaba. Situated at an elevation of 760 meters above sea level, this settlement is one of the important climatic and balneological resorts of the region. Historical Past
Akhaldaba has a rich history. It has been mentioned in written sources since the 12th century. Historically, it was a small town of strategic and commercial importance in the Mtkvari gorge. In 1260, the famous Battle of Kvishkheti between Georgians and Mongols took place near Akhaldaba. Historical monuments, including the Akhaldaba Tower, are still preserved in the townlet. In 1965, the settlement was officially granted the status of a townlet (daba).
