Afieti — The High-Mountain Guardian of Meskheti

In the Samtskhe-Javakheti region, within the Adigeni Municipality, on the southern slope of the Meskheti Range, lies the village of Afieti. Situated at an elevation of 1490 meters above sea level, this settlement is one of the historically rich and panoramic villages of the region. Afieti charms visitors with its harsh mountain nature and the archaeological treasures preserved on its land.

Afieti is mentioned several times in historical sources as an important strategic point. Monuments of medieval cultural heritage are preserved on the village territory:

Geography and Nature

The village is located on the left side of the Kvabliani River. The local terrain is high-mountain, creating ideal conditions for animal husbandry. The climate is harsh—with cool summers and snowy winters. Beautiful views of the Meskheti Range and the Kvabliani gorge open up from Afieti, making it attractive for hikers and nature lovers.

Local Lifestyle

Today, about 60 people live in Afieti. The majority of the population is ethnically Georgian. The daily life of the locals is closely tied to mountain farming.
